Amber Anjali
Amber started her exploration into movement practices with her first yoga class in 2003. Ten years later, she became one of the first Certified Level 2 Instructors in Bheemashakti Yoga in the U.S. During this time, she followed her calling to support pregnant families as a Birth Doula, Postpartum Yoga Instructor and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist. Amber gave birth to her son Aemon Koa in 2016 and realized that her yoga practice alongside her joy for dance played an integral role in her labor and birth. As a Certified ACE Group Fitness Instructor, Prenatal and Postnatal Exercise Specialist and Babywearing Consultant, Amber weaves breath awareness, movement and mindfulness together to provide opportunities of connection between caregivers and their children.
Meeshi Anjali
Meeshi grew up wanting to dance, but never felt safe enough to do it as a boy. Then, on his 25th birthday, he made a vow to conquer his fears around dance, and he’s been joyfully movin’ and groovin’ ever since. For the past 25 years, Meeshi has trained in and taught multicultural movement styles to dancers of all ages including Afro-Cuban folkloric dance, Afro-Brazilian dance, Hatha Yoga, Creative Movement, Lindy Hop Swing, and most recently R&B/Soul Line Dancing. Meeshi has also studied Family Bonding through APPPAH (Association of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health) and is the co-founder of International Family Dance Day with Selen Yilmaz of Joimove, which encourages the normalization of family dancing worldwide.
OUR STORY
As a couple envisioning growing a family, we wanted to see how we could combine our two passions (supporting new parents and community dancing), and be able to work from home to be present for the child’s first few years of life. Not long after we conceived our son, Aemon Koa, GroovaRoo Dance was born. When we started, we had no idea how big the global interest would be for our babywearing dance classes and only 6 months into the business, our dance videos went viral on Facebook with well over 100,000,000 total views all around the world. Because of this, we held our first international teacher training program in August 2016. We now have over 50 Certified GroovaRoo Dance teachers, in 15 countries and 15 U.S. States. Most recently, we have launched our new GroovaRoo 2.0 Teacher Training Program, so that we can offer family bonding activities for parents and baby from conception to the first two years of life.
